This includes the following volunteer corps:

Oldham Foot Association , formed 12 June 1798 disbanded 1802, commanded by Major John Lees

Oldham Horse Association, formed 27 June 1798 disbanded 1802, Commanded by Captain Ralph Kershaw then by Captain John Twemlow

Oldham Loyal Volunteers, formed 20 November 1799 disbanded 1802, commanded by Major John Lees

Oldham Loyal Volunteers, re-formed 6 September 1803 disbanded 1808, commanded by Lt Col John Lees

Oldham Local Militia, formed 1809 disbanded April 1816, commanded by Lt Col John Lees

Oldham Troop of Yeomanry Cavalry, formed 24 June 1817 disbanded 1828, commanded by Captain John Taylor

Oldham Rifle Volunteers, formed 1st Feb 1860, known as the 31st Lancashire Rifle Volunteers, In Nov 1863 the 31st became part of 7th Admin Battalion along with 23rd Lancashire Rifle Volunteers (Ashton), HQ at Ashton,  in 1880 both 31st & 23rd became the 7th Lancashire Rifle Volunteers, they then split from Ashton and changed to the 22nd Rifle Volunteer Corps in 1882, then became the 6th Volunteer Battalion of The Manchester Regiment in 1888 until 1908 and then under the reforms they formed the 10th Battalion (Territorial) Manchester Regiment.

Oldham Rifle volunteers were commanded by Lt Col John George Blackburne 1860-1872, Lt Col Thomas Evans Lees 1872-1878, Lt Col Ed Brown Lees 1878-1885, Lt Col James Greaves Ireland 1885-1889, Lt Col Joseph Crompton Lees 1889-1898, Lt Col James Robert Harries-Jones 1898-1903, Lt Col George Henry Hollingworth, 1903-1907, Lt Col Charles Hodgkinson 1907>
